Windows 10: Display to external monitor fix?

I recently got a second monitor to connect to my laptop. In the external display settings, I was adjusting the refresh rate for my monitor through Windows, and I think I selected a refresh rate that is not supported by my monitor because when I connect my monitor and my laptop, a black screen shows up, which indicates that my laptop recognizes my laptop but nothing turns on on the monitor. I don't know how to change the refresh rate to something my monitor supports because I cannot navigate anything as my laptop screen turns black as it thinks that the screen is being projected to the monitor. Anything I can do to reset this? I know that my monitor is functional as I have used it with other devices.

I have an HP spectre x360 that only has an integrated Intel HD for graphics. I use HDMI to connect the my laptop to the monitor.

Monitor is ASUS VG249Q monitor.

I understand that you are facing issues with the display scaling on your external displays. We will certainly look into this for you.

As you are using Vizio TV, you may have to try using custom resolution settings if the in-built settings do not provide the required settings.

For better clarity, please let us know:

• What is the version of Windows 10 that is currently installed on your computer? You can click on Search and type
  winver.
• Are you aware of any recent changes to the system, such as updates, after which you are facing this issue?
• What is the make and model of your computer?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to check the steps mentioned in the Workaround section in

I would also suggest you to check the Display drivers. Please refer

External Monitor with Quicken

Hi Mark,

It is possible that the display resolution automatically adjusts after connecting to an external monitor. For us to properly isolate this issue, we have some questions for you:

• Are you experiencing the same issue even without using the Quicken tool?
• Have you checked if the display resolution settings of the Surface device and the external monitor is the same?
• Have you tried checking for a graphics device driver update?
• What troubleshooting steps have you done to isolate the issue?
