    Disturbing Issue After Restarting Computer...

    Hey all,

I had a bunch of glitch issues ever since I got my new laptop a few weeks ago. It finally annoyed me so much I just did a "reset this pc" and had it wipe everything and reinstall. Things seem better now (fingers crossed). Well today while working my machine seemed a bit delayed, when I clicked on something it took a split second longer than it should to click, just annoying so I restarted the computer thinking something had updated in the background or something causing the delay. Well to my surprise I was brought to a fresh user account like you would be upon initial logon. All programs, files, etc. missing and all factory resets were present. I restarted the computer again and that seemed to correct it, but I'm wondering what the hell happened????? It did say "preparing your computer" for a while before booting to the desktop which was weird and obviously had something to do with it. Not sure what was going on or if it will happen again but I don't like the fact that if it decided to stay like that I would lose everything, etc. every time I rebooted my computer. Any advice, insight, help etc would be appreciated.

    :)

    My computer turns on

Do you have a program that is scheduled to do something during the night? See Task Scheduler.

Or possibly Windows Update needs to restart your computer after installing an update? Unless you choose a different time, Windows 10 will schedule the restart for sometime during the middle of the night so as not to disturb you during the day.

    Disturbing Issue After Restarting Computer...

I hope you're restarting the computer after desktop has come to a "parade rest." Restarting in the middle of any Windows session's boot and load process might cause more rather than less troubles.

I'm not sure the exact definition but it was fully on my desktop, etc. Just seemed really odd, I'm going to restart the computer again to see if it does it again, I'm just worried about it doing it one day and not being able to get it back. I'm sure there is an explanation to it, and I know it has to do with the message "preparing windows" just not sure why it kicked into that, there was no reason to.

Can't tell what's happened- on the one hand it sounds a bit like it was restoring the PC from the recovery partition - "All programs, files, etc. missing and all factory (p?)resets were present." On the other, that's not possible, 'cos you were back as you were after a restart.

Is it possible you now have two user accounts? I.e. you simply created a new user?

How to secure your PC and your sanity by using disk imaging
Ok, here's the faster way and the strongly recommended way by all here to defend yourself against most problems.. from cryptolocker to (oh no.. user error!).

Start using disk imaging. Regularly. Before any major change, and after a big change or a series of smaller changes. System Restore isn't enough.. it can help sometimes, but only if you turn it on (it's off by default.. absurd).

    With disk images you
    a. Can restore your disk/partition in a defined time (e.g 20 to 40 mins).
    b. Have a full backup - can extract files.
    c. Can use them to rebuild your system on a new HDD (e.g.)
    d. Have peace of mind (most important!)

Get a copy of e.g. Macrium Reflect or Aomei Backupper (both have free options). The first is more geeky and a cut down version of a commercial product - no incremental backup, and said to be more reliable. The 2nd is more straightforward, offering both differential and incremental backups. (You can read about those yourself if unsure).

Make sure you create the boot disk.. essential when dealing with an unbootable PC.
You need large enough external storage for the image files.

Well I restarted again and it booted fine like it was suppose to do, hopefully I won't see this again. To answer your question, no I only had one account (unless you count the one I built before I did the reset this pc thing).
