Windows 10: dns settings for wifi's with open connections keep going back to manual

Whenever i try to go to a coffee shop or anywhere with open wifi connections the internet is always hard to connect to because the dns settings keep going back to manual even though I've tried to permanently make it auto. I end up connecting but it says connected but no internet. Then it's a process to change the settings and wait until it works. But when i connect to a wifi that is password encrypted everything works fine with no issues. Any advice on what to do about this inconvenience?

Hi,

Need help, I'm trying to change my dns setting on WiFi Connection in my windows 10 x64 laptop for smart dns connection, but it's not working.

I've already tried using ipv4 configuration, not working

cmd as administrator, not working

the setting will be listed in my configuration on pc, but whenever I tried to confirmed it using dnsleaktest.com or to my smart dns provider there seems there seems no change in the connection.

Is there anyone could help me?

 

Is it possible to set up a new manual wifi connection from the command line?

I'm trying to work out a solution to set up ad-hock wifi connections in Windows 8.1 based on the suggestions in a post on Micsrosoft's answers site. Is there any way to do the first few steps:

• go to "Network and Sharing Center"
  
• click "Set up a new connection or network"
  
• double click "Manually connect to a wireless network"
  
• enter the SSID of the ad-hoc network (as shown by "netsh wlan show networks") into the "Network name" field
  
• configure security settings accordingly
  
• uncheck "Start this connection automatically" (important)
  

...without using the windows dialogs?

You're saying that Open DNS(and other services like it) house their own list of known 'bad' sites, and by using their DNS servers, it will filter out sites based on that list?

Would you believe I was already using Open DNS servers.
This means the hosts file is moot?

And furthering that, if there's any bespoke sites I want to manually add, I could do it through my router directly.

Thus I can empty my local hosts file and turn my DNS service back on?
