Windows 10: DNS / VLAN Network configuration

I will keep environment simple. There are two VLANs, VLAN_100 hosts AD DC and production servers, whereas VLAN_200 hosts workstations. Inter VLAN routing is enabled between domains. The DC hosts DNS and DHCP services. Router is setup to relay DHCP Address requests for all VLANs to DHCP service running on DC. DNS Reverse Lookup Zones exist for the subnets sitting on the VLANs. If Windows hosts are setup on VLAN_100, then no problem, can join the domain. The problem is setting up hosts on VLAN_200, error reports that it cannot find SRV _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.[domain] record. VLAN problems on managed Cisco switch.

So, I'm having a weird issue with a Cisco switch. I am using Aerohive APs and they use different SSIDs that communicate over several VLANS. For some reason, they are only able to communicate over one SSID on one VLAN. It doesn't even recognize the others. It appears as though the ports on the switch are setup the same as other switches that also have those VLANS/APs. Has anyone else experienced this?

Here is an example of the configuration of an AP port:

switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan (lists VLANs allowed here)
switchport trunk native vlan (VLAN number here)

The VLANs themselves are also configured on the switch along with the helper IP addresses that correspond to them.

The switch is using VTP version 2 with the correct domain listed. The switch is showing that it was configured by the correct VTP server, but not since March.

Create VLAN based Virtual Network Interfaces in Windows 10?

The TCP/IP Networking Stack in Windows doesn't natively support vLANs, however OpenVPN created a workaround that can be utilized to create feature-limited vLANs on Windows.

1. Download and install OpenVPN
   
2. Once installed, run C:\Program Files\TAP-Windows\bin\addtap.bat
   
3. Open the newly created TAP adapter's settings:
   
   1. Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings
      
   2. Right-click on TAP adapter > Properties - Configure
      
   3. Advanced > Media Status - Always Connected (required)
      
   4. Manually set IP:
      
      1. Adapter Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4
         
      2. General > Use the following IP address
         
         • Required: IP & Subnet
           
         • Not Required: Default gateway, Preferred/Alternate DNS Server
           

Note: This is a limited feature vLAN and is not like vLANs created on BSD/Linux.

We already provide the basic steps for us to change the DNS server. We suggest to contact your ISP service provider for them to configure and provide the exact DNS server.
