Using business-critical legacy unsupported software which has problems running on 2004. Deferred 2004 installation by 365 days, but what then?

Some years ago, these two keys prevented feature updates while not interfering with the security patches. Is there a modern equivalent working for 1909 Pro?

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\ WindowsUpdate\DisableOSUpgrade=1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Windows\Update\OSUpgrade\AllowOSUpgrade=0

Don't want to use the metered connection workaround because the security patches shall be installed nevertheless.

    DisableOSUpgrade

The initial question was how to block a system update because my PC is not compatible to upgrade any higher than Windows 10 Version 1709. The 1803 and the 1809 fail after installation.

I received a response from Kapil Arya and need further assistance.

    My Query,

    Hi Kapil Arya

Thank you for your response. I tried using the Hide Updates Tool to no avail, it didn't work. I proceeded to open the Registry Editor and, DisableOSUpgrade, and that blocked the Windows Version 1803 from installing.

Now the Windows Version 1809 continually tries to install but my PC is to old and not compatible. I've tried to delete the DisableOSUpgrade and than followed the steps to re-enter it to the registry. My PC is in a continuous loop trying to install 1809 and
when it fails it reverts back to install 1803 again.

My computer can't update higher than the 1709, it's not compatible.

    If You Can Please Advise,

  3. Any idea why the DisableOSUpgrade is missing in my windows 7 registry?

    Hi folks,

I have been using the excellent reg edit tutorial on this site to disable upgrading to 10

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...s-7-8-1-a.html

I like to go manually into the registry without downloading the app to do it, and it has worked well on one my windows 7 partitions.

However on my other windows 7 partition I cant see the
    DisableOSUpgrade DWORD

    in the registry key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

Any ideas why it is missing, I am sure I am logged on as admin and also have enabled hidden files and folders?

The size of that partition is 60GB.

Thanks very much for any suggestions.

Trying to disable the Insert key with a Registry edit

    Hi Bill,

We appreciate the information that you provided. For us to narrow down your concern with
disabling the Insert key with a Registry edit, have you tried creating a backup before editing the registry? If yes, we suggest that you restore it back; then, try it again with the correct entry. To do this, see this
    link, and follow the steps/instructions.

We would appreciate it if you could get back to us and provide us your feedback.
