Windows 10: Do Google, Microsoft, Apple and other vendors share WIFI location databases?

[COLOR=rgba0, 0, 0, 1]I learnt that if, for example, I open the Microsoft Maps app in my Windowslaptop, it can pinpoint my exact location by checking online on a database Microsofthas, that tracks nearby WIFI Access Points MAC addresses to the GPS locationthat had been previously reported by GPS able devices such as smartphonesnearby.[/COLOR]


[COLOR=rgba0, 0, 0, 1]This is really contrived and smart way to help non-GPS able computers know their location.[/COLOR]


[COLOR=rgba0, 0, 0, 1]My doubt is: Do Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc, share this database?, ordo they keep their databases independently, which would seem like a wastedeffort.[/COLOR]


[COLOR=rgba0, 0, 0, 1]I say this because, the way I understand this works please correct meif I’m wrong, is that most Android phones report this WAP-to-GPS location toGoogle I can’t see any Microsoft service or app reporting this in my Androidphone settings, while Apple phones I guess report this to Apple.[/COLOR]

As a work around, we suggest you to uninstall Google from the downloaded location and reinstall and check for the issue.

which still begs the questions of
- where does all the rubbish come from in the list of suggestions (e.g. people's names and a full address in Canada I simply don't recognise, along with some obscure character strings that mean nothing?
- why don't I see the suggestion dropdown on 1 PC?

 

Where is the tag database located?

Hello!

I usually tag (and re-tag) my photos to try and get them in some semblance of order.

Tagging in the File Explorer Details Panel is real easy. I type and autocomplete suggests something I've used before. Simple, right?

But what if I don't use that tag anymore? I don't want to have suggestions of obsolete tags.





How do I access and edit wherever Windows 10 keeps these? Some of these I just want to edit, some of these, I want gone.
