Do I have latest version and build?

I have Windows 10 Home, Version 1709, and OS Build 16299.125.

First thing is this the latest to date? Also, do you know where I can check this in the future. I googled it and found a couple of places but unfortunately they confused me. Somewhat new to Windows 10 update format.

Another question came to mind when I was struggling with updates. Lets say a PC/Laptop has not been updated for some time. If I did a Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade Installation Upgrade Tutorials , and used a current ISO, would that bring the OS current and bypass all the updating? I am assuming that the media creation tool would use the current version, right? Or is this wishful thinking?

    :)

There is no need to "reserve" anything. It is merely marketing on the part of MS to "encourage" users to upgrade. They will be happy to upgrade any qualifying OS during the first year for free and it will remain free for the life of the device when it
    is released on July 29
    *
You gain nothing by "reserving" other than giving Microsoft an email address to spam you at. You will not get it any sooner, nor will there be any other advantage. In FACT, if you reserve you may get it later as this statement from Microsoft explains
Once windows is available, some notifications will happen as soon as windows is available, others will go out in the weeks and months following

As of latest build, just check Tenforums Windows 10 news. Brink is keeping this section up to date. 16299.205 is the latest build.

In-place upgrade would bring you up to the build of latest ISO. Not always up to date. There is a site (blog of MS developer) which lists all the relevant builds. Have to search for it...

Buildfeed is one of the sites for this info

Not quite up to date unless, that is, you have an older AMD processor. 16299.125 was the December update. There was a January update to 16299.192 after that, but if you have an AMD processor it may be blocked from receiving that one as there are known incompatibilities. Builds .192/.201 are the 64/32 bit 'fixes' for that AMD bug, but are only available by download from the update catalog, they not delivered by windows update.

This is where to find the information about Windows 10 release history. You will be taken to this page if you click the 'learn more' link in Settings > Update & Security.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...update-history

As AndreTen says, the ISO for a reinstall is not the latest one. The current ISO is for the base level release of version 1709, build 16299.15, which on installing will check for the latest update to bring it up to date.

Thanks AndreTen and Bree. I do have an AMD E1-2500 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.4GHz. Tower came with 8 so it has some age. Actually this belongs to a fellow student I am trying to help. I will get the update and install it to be safe.

The purpose of my OP was I just spent 2 days fighting the latest update. I finally persevered, although I may need psychiatric counselling*Confused. Anyway, I was trying to cheat and just do the in place install in place of a ton of updates. Students come to me since I am in Computer Support and Networking program. Sometimes they have not updated their computers for some time. But that is OK because it gives me hands.

    Thanks again for your help.

MS prevented some updates for AMD system, as there was possibility of putting those systems in non-bootable state.

One thing about In-place repair, if user didn't do any updates for a long time, you could profit some downloading time with it.

  8. Do I have latest version and build?

A easy way to see what is installed on a computer is>

Just open the cmd prompt and read the first line. You do not have to type anything.

    Example from my system.

That's it. Done. It makes it easy to check every computer brought to you with Windows 10 installed.

The easiest way to update Windows is to download a small portable app without having to search for all the available updates:
Download WHDownloader (Windows Hotfix Downloader) 2.2
You'd get a screen as shown:

Do I have latest version and build? [IMG]

Follow the steps to download multiple KB,s. In this case, 16299 is the latest for 1709.192

It is also easy with a few DISM commands, you can slip stream those into 1709.15 so that'll be up to date with the latest.

Thanks to you topguncp, I'm going to give that a try. I may have questions about it later. I'll look you up in update forum.
