  1. Do I have to install windows 11 on my M.2 SSD drive if the original drive was never used?

So I recently ordered a brand new laptop ASUS Vivobook S14 Flip, never been used, fresh out of the box. It has a 512GB SSD drive, and I ordered an M.2 2TB SSD drive to replace it. I've heard I'd have to install windows 11 on the new SSD drive when I'm swapping SSD drives. But this laptop already runs on windows 11 windows 11 home, to be exact, and I haven't even turned on the laptop yet. Is it still necessary to install windows 11 on the new drive? If so, how would I do that? I plan on directly putting the ssd card in the motherboard itself before even starting the laptop. Is that a good i

  2. Windows 11 not supporting multiple M.2 Drives?

I am having a new laptop built to order and have specified 2 x M.2 drives and Windows 11. The company has come back to me to say Windows 11 would not allow 2 M.2 drives to be installed and have recommended one of them be changed to a 2.5" SSD. I am reluctant to do this due to 2.5" SSD drive being much slower than M.2.

I am however very surprised that Windows 11 would not allow more than 1 x M.2 drive. Is this true or is there, as I suspect, in fact a hardware limitation problem with my OEM?

I am struggling to understand why any version of Windows least of all Windows 11 would limit the number of M.2 drives. Actually, I have a desktop running Windows 10 that has 3 x M.2 drives.

  3. Windows 11 not supporting multiple M.2 Drives?

I have put it to the OEM that they have a hardware issue. They have replied maintaining that the issue also has to do with Win 11 as they do not have the same problem on Win 10! See their response below. Is this something that Microsoft folks need to be aware of?

"RMA’s have confirmed this works with windows 10, so it is not a hardware limitation.

Due to the nature of the motherboards on laptops, these take much longer to be updated as we have to wait for the manufacturers overseas to contact us with BIOS updates.

This is likely going to be the fix for this chassis with windows 11, but as windows 11 has not been fully released at the moment there is still issues like this that we are seeing.

It could also be a windows 11 issue, at this moment in time our RMA’s just know that two M.2 drives don’t work on this particular chassis on windows 11."

Do I have to install windows 11 on my M.2 SSD drive if the original drive was never used?

    M.2 SSD drive instalation

Today I have received this M.2 SSD adapter. Put XPG SX8000 SSD drive in it, and inserted them in system based on AsRock Z87 Extreme 4 motherboard. However I can't see the device on my computer. Disk management shows only my current Sata SSD and HDD drive. Any unallocated drives wasn't found. Red LED indicator is shining on the adapter, not sure if it is good or bad.

In looks like device is visible via Aida extreme https://i.gyazo.com/af47214bcdd33559bad1fcd4b256fbc2.png
