Windows 10: Do I need McAfee Advanced and Windows Defender both on my computer?

I purchased McAfee Advanced in July 2023, then in October 2023 Windows Defender automatically installed on my computer. Since then I can't get updates to my payroll service in Quickbooks. Do I need both or can I turn Defender off since I'm paying for the McAfee Advanced. How can I fix this issue?

Conflict between McAfee and Windows Defender

Did you ask McAfee support (http://service.mcafee.com/) and/or in their forum (McAfee Support Community)?

Try to

• uninstall McAfee
• run their removal tool (see List of anti-malware product removal tools )
• reboot
• re-install McAfee

In case Windows Defender is still not disabled after doing the above steps, either

disable Windows Defender manually (see the Answer-marked post of GreginMich in

this thread)

or

use a REG file (see Option 2 here: Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 )

Windows Defender and McAfee

I have used McAfee for many years without any problems until 3rd March 2018 following Definition Update KB2267602.

Since then although the Windows Defender Firewall screen still states 'These settings are being managed by McAfee Personal Firewall'

there is a red alert on the Security & Maintenance Page that says Windows Firewall is off and needs to be turned on.

Plus on the same page it states that the virus protection is being managed by Windows Defender Antivirus when it used to say McAfee.

Any suggestions please. Have checked and McAfee clearly shows my computer as being secure but would like to understand why Windows Defender is suddenly showing these message.
