Windows 10: Do I need my windows 10 serial number for fresh new clean installation ?

I downloaded now the MediaCreationTool1809.exe file from microsoft.


I have windows 10 installed on my pc but I want now to re install a new clean fresh installation of the windows 10.

Do I need the serial number when installing from a bootable cd or usb ?


And if I need the serial number is there a way to get it online ? My windows 10 I bought it long time ago. But I'm not sure what is the serial number.

Now installed on my pc: Windows 10 home version 1803 build 17134.523 installed on the 03/07/2018


I just want to know if I need the serial number again ? And if so then where and how to get it ?

After more than 60 failed attempts at updating to MS' Creator's Studio Fall edition (1709), by every way suggested out there I've decided to do a clean install, however inconvenient, arduous, time consuming, expensive (had to buy an HDD) and absurd (my
Windows 10 was working alright until this pesky update came around). Now, my question is: how do I transfer the serial number from my actual Windows 10, to the one I intend to install?

My plan is to take out my actual HDD that holds the operating system, install the new one and download the new Windows 10 (with the Creators Studio 1709 update) for the clean install. Afterwards, would I have to reinstall the "old" HDD to de-activate the
serial number to then activate it in the new installation?

So I'll summarize steps made...

1. Saved serial number (taken with Belarc Advisory) from preinstalled (half chinese language) Windows 8.1 (don't know exactly the version, suspect Windows 8.1 with bing) on tablet
2. Formatted tablet
3. Tried to make a clean Windows 10 (HOME, HOME N and also PRO, everytime with the same result) install with ISO taken with MediaCreationTool, during install (and also after completing installation) it says that the saved serial is not valid
4. Tried to reinstall Windows 8.1 (ISO taken with MediaCreationTool again) HOME, it says that the serial is not valid

So i suspect that the saved serial, is from a WINDOWS 8.1 WITH BING OEM version and this kind of ISO is not accessible/downloadable anywhere (at least I can't find it, any suggestion?)

Still not tried SHOWKEY with that serial, I am in office now, and the serial is saved on a usb pen at home, will try this evening.

So I'm stucked but if everything is like I suspect, it's incredible. If I have a tablet/notebook/netbook with Windows 8 preinstalled, it seems that I can update to Windows 10 without problems, but if I want to make a clean Windows 10 install that serial is not valid...
