Windows 10 not activated after motherboard swap

    Hi,

I've ran into interesting problem after swapping out my computer's motherboard. The old motherboard contained a windows 8.1 pro key in the bios and the computer was upgraded to window 10 pro. After I swapped out the motherboard, the old one was fried, and
put the new one in, I can't activate windows anymore.

The new motherboard contains a new windows 8.1 key but is there a way to activate it? Or do i simply have to reinstall windows 10?

    Best regards.

    Reinstall Windows?

You don't need to reinstall windows. Go to the device manager and remove uninstall the processor and motherboard drivers listed. When you start the system back up you should be able to re-install the new ones. I just changed my mobo/processor Friday, everything is fine.

BTW I have seen some reviews that state practically no difference in using more than 2gb of ram.

Do I need to reinstall windows when upgrading my motherboard?

    Hi TAPE,

It is possible to swap motherboards without reformatting. Windows will automatically detect and update the required drivers for your new motherboard.

But I highly suggest to just do a clean formatting instead for more stable OS.
