  1. Do I Need to Remove the "Second" External Drive From File Explorer?

I have read articles now on the "ghost" appearance of external drives in File Explorer--they are many but with one element in common. All solutions I have found require me to edit the registry of my brand new laptop. This is something I could do, but it is really a last resort. Did I mention the computer is brand new? I have no problem ignoring the one the system would seem to and point all my traffic to the D: occurrence I believe is directly under the computer, not the C: drive. My question is simply this: If I leave it the way it is, will it cause technical issues to arise within Wind

    :)

    External Hard Drive

    Hi John,

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

    • Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
    • Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.
The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

Let us know if you need further help.

External drive not appearing in File Explorer

I had the same problem - this is what worked for me:

    • Plug in and turn on the external USB hard drive
    • Right mouse click on My Computer
    • Left click on Manage
    • Left click on Device Manager
    • Expand the USB list
    • Find the USB device for your USB Hard Drive (in my case it was the one that had no description)
    • Right mouse click - Uninstall
    • Remove the external USB hard drive
    • Plug in the external USB hard drive and let it find and install the driver

This and other possible solutions are here:

Do I Need to Remove the "Second" External Drive From File Explorer?

File Explorer Not Showing External "A" Drive

I plugged an external "A" drive into my computer via a USB port with File Explorer open. The "A" drive shows up, but only for about 2 seconds and then it goes away. I changed USB ports and it does the same. I checked Device Manager under "Floppy Drives"
and it shows the "A" drive connected. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!!
