  1. Do System Restore points also remove data, or do they just adjust the registry?

So I had created this system restore point before using this script tweak, and I wanted to try use that system restore to get rid of some bugs that I'm having, but I don't want to lose some data by activating that system restore point, so if they do remove data, is there some way that I can rest my registry settings without removing that data? Thanks!

Problem with creating a restore point

There may be an issue with the registry data of system restore. This can be the reason why you're unable to create a restore point. We will checking the registry data of system restore to see if the data are correct. If not, we may need to edit its data.
Since we may need to edit the registry, we have to back up it first so that we will have a copy of the data in case something happened to the registry data. You can back up the registry by following the steps
here. Once you've backed up the registry, follow the steps below to check if the registry of system
    restore are correct:

    • Right click the Windows logo (Start button), and then click Run.
    • In the Run textbox, type regedit.
    • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT
    • Check f you see a folder named SystemRestore. If you cannot see it, you can create one by following these steps:
      • Right-click Windows NT, and then hover your to New.
      • Choose Key.
      • Name the new "Key" as SystemRestore.
    • If you can see the "SystemRestore" folder, click it and check if you can see the DWORD value
DisableConfig on the right pane. If you just created the "SystemRestore" folder, follow these steps:
      • Click the folder and right-click the space on the right pane.
      • Hover you mouse to New, and then choose DWORD (32-bit) Value.
      • Name the new item as DisableConfig.
    • Right-click "DisableConfig" and select Modify.
    • Change the Value data to 1.

We'll be waiting for the outcome.

How to delete inactive System Image Restore Points in System Restore

    Windows 10 64-bit.
When I click "show more restore points" in System Restore I see a bunch of old "system image restore points" that were deleted in past and do not correspond to any currently active restore points. Clicking any of these old restore points, I simply get an error message saying they could not be found, and to select another restore point instead.I would like to delete these restore points listings but have been unable to do so.
So far, I have tried steps mentioned below without any luck :

Disk Cleanup through (CDo System Restore points also remove data, or do they just adjust the registry? :) Properties
Disable System Protection (OFF and ON) in System Protection for OS (CDo System Restore points also remove data, or do they just adjust the registry? :)
Disk Space Usage to minimum (slider button all the way to the left then 'Delete all restore points for this drive'),
Delete all shown Restore points in CCleaner (the problem ones do not show here),
Reset Windows Backup to Default in Windows 10 with 'Reset_Windows_Backup.bat' utility.

    Any suggestions highly welcome.

    How to restore registry values?

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

You can perform system restore and check if it helps:

    Perform System restore.

I suggest you to perform system restore and select a date prior to the changes which was done with the registry values and check if the issue gets fixed.

    To perform System restore:

    • Press Windows key + X, select
      System.
    • In the left pane, click on System Protection.
    • Select the option to system restore
      > next. It will show all restore points already created.
    • Select the date prior to the date on which you have made the registry changes.
    Registry disclaimer

To do so: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these
steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article
