    Windows 10 and Host Id

Why are the latest windows 10 updates changing the Host Id? My company uses software that is licensed to each host id to identify. I am hoping that there is a good reason to change the host id. If anyone can shed some light on this as why it needs to
be done I would appreciate it.

  3. Can't Install Windows 10 1607 virtual machine Guest on Server 2008 R2 Host

Trying to install the new Windows 10 1607 Enterprise OS as a virtual Machine using Hyper V on a Server 2008 R2 Host.

When I start the installer I get the Windows logo for 5 seconds.

Then the screen goes blank / black.

I would usually expect to see the Windows Installer options to select the Installation Language, Region and Keyboard settings. But I just see a black screen.

I get the following errors in the event viewer. Application and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Hyper-V-Worker -> Admin

    Event ID: 23014

    Event ID: 12540

    Event ID: 11902

Anybody know how to fix this?

I have lodged a case with Microsoft Support.

    Anybody else have this issue?

How I find Host id ?

You need to contact the software vendor and ask what they mean by "Device Id". For example for MathWorks (see

What is a Host ID? How do I find my Host ID in order to activate my license?
) it can be either the Volume Serial Number of the C: drive or the MAC address of the network adapter. Other companies provide a page describing
how to find it as in the following.
