Windows 10: Documents Folder under the user dir now points to the user dir and I can't change it.

I was trying to move my user folder "%USERPROFILE%\Documents", using the location tab, to another directory and accidentally used "%USERPROFILE%". Now if I go to that dir "%USERPROFILE%" The documents folder takes me back to "%USERPROFILE%". The Location tab is now gone. I was able to modify the registry and now the Documents folder in the left pane in Explorer and with apps it's correct but the Documents folder under the "%USERPROFILE%" still points back to "%USERPROFILE%". How can I fix this?Thanks.

Just curious, if you log into that account and launch command prompt do a change directory to your documents folder and do a DIR review the output and a DIR /R and review the output to do you see any of the files?

C;\Users\[Username]\

• cd Documents #Press enter
  
• DIR #Press enter
  

Do you see any files?

Also then try DIR /R #Press enter

Try going into one of those 0 KB folders

cd [folder name] then doing a DIR /R again

 

dir Difficulties

DIR uses whatever time definition you tell it to use. Following command would list all files and folders in X:\Downloads in order they have been created:

dir X:\Downloads /t:c

DIR is fully capable to sort files and folders. Following command would list all files in X:\Downloads, oldest first:

dir X:\Downloads /o:d

The minus sign before a parameter reverses the results, so the following command would list the same folder in reversed order, newest first:

dir X:\Downloads /o:-d

You can also combine switches. Following command would list all files and folders in X:\Downloads and all its subfolders (the /s switch), listing them in newest first based on time of file / folder creation:

dir X:\Downloads /s /o:-d /t:c

 

User name is not showing in Users folder

Hi,

Open a Command Prompt window and run:

• dir C:\Users /a
  

and

• dir %userprofile%
  

Pls post a screenshot.
