Windows 10: Does a disk transfer speed depend on how much RAM I have?

Hello,I have a habit of backing up data to my pen drive once a month, or twice in case I forgot that I have already made a backup. The problem is, the original files are in a 931 GB HDD and I shift data to an HP x740w pen drive. The transfer rate is slower than a snail. When I see how much time is left to finish, I feel like crying.So, has this got anything to do with RAM? I have 4 GB RAM and it is always full, even if I have no program open. I don't know why I am not able to take a screenshot now, but 3.8 of 4 GB is always full. What should I do to make transfer rates faster?With Regards,Arsi

Ram Speeds

The Specs for that laptop list your RAM clock speed at 2400Mhz, even if you do but 2666Mhz RAM, the system will match the speed of the ram Sticks to the lower of the two automatically . . .

 

RAM not running at correct speed.

In your case both are correct. The BIOS is displaying the DDR4 speed (2133MHz) and Windows is displaying the actual clock speed of the RAM (1067MHz.) DDR4 speeds are listed as twice the clock rate because DDR transfers data twice in one clock cycle. So,
1067*2 ~ 2133. Nothing is wrong here.

 

Disk Write Speed

Backup speeds depend only on hardware, just like with almost anything else.
Because of pretty high level of compacting, that's where CPU does most work and that can impact backup speed. A lot is done in RAM to, so amount of RAM and it's speed play a role.
Next is disk system, speed of reading and specially writing of destination disk and type of connection to it are most influential for backup speed. One example: I now have a fast NVMe SSD for Windows, backing up to another NVMe SSD and backup times are half of when I backup to a mechanical HDD and even longer when backing up to a USB2 connected HDD.
