Windows 10: Does anyone know why I cannot connect to wireless networks? Also why does my Ethernet cable...

I have desktop that does not connect to network wireless, so I had to connect Ethernet cable. Now Ethernet connection is not working but my desktop says I am connected. I cannot log into my Microsoft account either because no network. I somehow managed to download Google Chrome and works a bit sometimes but then suddenly stops working. I watch many videos on how to help like control panel, device manager, network settings, etc. I cannot seem to fix the issue at all, does anyone know how to help me? I also switched the Ethernet cable with another one and still no resolve.

Ethernet Cable connection in Dorms

Press start
Type in "network", and select "Network and Sharing Centre"
Click on Change Adapter Settings at the left.
Check if you have two, one ethernet and one wireles.
If you only have one, wireless, your ethernet driver is not installed (refer to website of manufacturer for driver)
If you have two, and the ethernet cable is plugged in but the adapter is not connected - buy a new cable.
Check with university site management to see if they have purposefully disabled physical network connection.

 

Change ethernet connection to a wireless connection

   build of you operating system? In the Search box, type
   winver to get this info.
   
2. May I know if you have already setup a Wireless network connection?
   
3. When you say “change from a ethernet connection to a wireless connection” do you want to set up a Wireless network connection?
   

Ideally, when you have ethernet cable connected to your computer, by default, priority will be to the ethernet connection.

If you are trying to setup a new Wireless Connection then, suggest you to refer this article for

If your computer supports Wifi and you would like to create a Wireless Hotspot then, you can
refer this article to

Ethernet cable settings

Hi Campbell,

Please reply to the follow questions to get a better understanding on the issue:

• What is the model number of your laptop?
  
• Do you have a yellow exclamation on the network icon after connecting the cat 7 cable?
  

However, you can follow the troubleshooting steps from
Fix network connection issues in Windows.

Also, I suggest you to check the laptop manual or laptop manufacturer to know whether the Ethernet port of your laptop supports cat 7 cable.
