Windows 10: Does anyone know why my graphics driver is disabled when i reboot my system?

Im using an Nvidia GTX 970 in a Razer Core X Chroma with my laptop and whenever i connect my EGPU after a reboot, I check device manager and my GTX 970 driver is disabled preventing my display from displaying anything. Im pretty sure this is a windows issue but i dont know whats causing it. If anyone else has experienced this, knows what might be causing it or knows any fixes, i would love to hear from you.

Adding graphics card - system refuses to boot

Hello Chris,

Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family.

From the description provided, I understand that Windows is unable to configure the drivers for the external graphics device.

To be able to assist you better, let us know if the device you are referring to is connected via USB/PCI slot.

Also, let us know the exact error messages or the notifications which you receive during

• System notification prompting to use Device manager.
• At reboot.

As an initial recommendation, I suggest you to disable the internal graphics card adapter from Device Manager and then try to install the drivers for the new graphics card.

To do so, right click on the Start Menu, find Device Manager
and open. Locate the graphics device in the device list, right click on it and select disable. If it still does not help, uninstall the drivers for your internal graphics card and then check again.

Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware

I appreciate your effort on this. However, to get to the root cause of the issue, please reply with the following details:

• Does the issue occur with all the games or only with one particular game?
  
• Are you aware of any major changes on the computer prior to this issue?
  

As you have mentioned that the Nvidia drivers are not latest, I suggest you to install the latest drivers and see if that helps to resolve the issue.

Also, I would suggest to disable Intel graphics driver and check the system performance. Please follow the steps to disable Intel graphics driver:

1. Press Windows key + X, this will open the context menu.
   
2. Click on Device Manager.
   
3. Expand Display adapters.
   
4. Right click on Intel graphics driver and click on
   Disable device.
   
5. This will disable the Intel graphics driver and all the programs should go through NVidia graphics driver.
