Windows 10: Does installing a video card slow down performance?

My primary desktop is getting old, so I thought it was time for some upgrades. I told my friend about this, but he stated a new GPU slows down the CPU and other components. Should I be worried?


Here’s my current specs for reference:

Dell Inspiron 3847


Intel Core i5-4460 @3.20 GHz

8 GB @ 1600 MHz DDR3

No Dedicated GPU

• Did you install any third party security application?
• Did you perform any troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue?

I suggest you to run Maintenance task and check if it helps to resolve the system slowness.

The Run maintenance task checks issues that might slow down your computer's performance or using high memory space, such as how many users are currently logged on to the computer and whether multiple programs
are running at the same time.

1) Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel

2) Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.

3) Click on View all on the left navigation pane.

Perform System Maintenance troubleshooter.

I would suggest you to perform System Maintenance troubleshooter on the computer and check if it fixes the issue.

Please follow the steps to perform System maintenance check to improve performance of the computer:

• Press Windows and X key together and select Control Panel.
• Click on Troubleshooting.
• Click on View all on the left side panel.
• Click on System Maintenance and follow the onscreen instructions.
