Does Microsoft Modern USB speaker not work through a USB hub? I'm out of ports to connect directly!

Microsoft USBC Speaker fails to enumerate via USB Hub -- Error "device descriptor request failed"

I connected Microsoft USB-C speaker (via USB hub) to USB-C port of Motherboard and it failed to enumerate.

The speaker works fine when connected (1) directly to USBC port of motherboard (2) via USB dock.

The speaker doesn't enumerate with multiple USB hubs "Device Descriptor Request Failed".

So, the combination of USB hub & Microsoft USBC speaker seem to have issue.

Other devices work fine with USB hub i.e. Tenx speaker, Microsoft USBC headset.

Does usb hub slowing down the USB port?

Thank you. My thought too. I am now rearrange the USB connection.

USB key for Ready boost now got direct USB port (not via USB hub port) to PC.

According to your tests, the microphone is not recognised by the computer when plugged directly into a USB port, while it works fine when connected through a USB hub. In addition, you have tried reinstalling the drivers at the system level, but the problem is still not resolved.



This suggests that the problem is probably not at the software level, but at the hardware level. Specifically, there may be some physical fault with your USB port that prevents the device from being recognised when connected directly. However, after expanding the port through a USB hub, the hub provides additional power and signal transmission functions, temporarily covering the fault of the port, so that the device can be recognised and used.



It is recommended that you visit an official repair shop to check if there is a hardware problem with the USB port, it is likely that it is indeed caused by your hardware problem, I wish you all the best!
