Does Removing Permissions for a Folder Remove Them From All the Subfolders?

earlier, I gave my account just called 'User' access to the Tasks folder in System32. within that folder are 3 subfolders and a bunch of files, the files are mostly related to Nvidia and OneDrivemy User account has access permissions to all of these files, and 2/3 of the folders AgentActivation and Asus, but not the Microsoft folder or any of its sub-subfoldersthe normal accounts that have permission to this folder are Creator Owner, Authenticated Users, System, Local Service, Network Service, and the Administrators group. my User account is part of the Admin group, but I obviously had to

  2. Folder Permissions Remove System

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Let me answer your query on Windows 10.

Please be informed that you cannot remove the system entry, However you can add/remove permission for a particular user.

The Group or user name section lists all the accounts on the computer. If you want to prevent a user to accessing the folder, you may deny/remove all permission for that particular user.

The system account and the administrator account (Administrators group) have the same file privileges, but they have different functions. The system account is used by the operating system and by services that run under Windows.

I suggest you not to remove permissions for SYSTEM entry.

Hope the information helps, do reply if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.

Unable to remove write protection from folders.

    Hi EliaHanin,

Modifying changes in permissions with folders and files requires you being logged in to your administrator account to ensure it will be saved. To help you remove the write protection from folders, follow the steps below:

    • Type File Explorer on the search bar then click on the folder you need to change permissions to.
    • On the menu, click on Share > Advanced security
      > double click on your administrator user profile> Edit >
      Show Advanced permissions
      .
    • Make sure that the category under Type: is set to allow and on
Applies to: set to This folder, subfolders and files.
    • Under advanced permissions, remove the check on Write attributes and
Write extended attributes. You can also remove the check of the choices you prefer.
    • Click on OK then restart your PC.

Let us know how it goes.

Does Removing Permissions for a Folder Remove Them From All the Subfolders?

Removing folder permissions from 'Authenticated Users' and/or 'SYSTEM'

    Hi,

I am using Windows 10 Professional. While logged in as myself (account name 'PWK' and member of the 'Administrators' group), I created a folder at the root of my hard drive called C:\MySecureFolder

I would like to secure this folder as much as I possibly can so that only the following permissions will exist:

    • Members of a Group called 'Artists' can read files from this folder but can do nothing else
    • Members of a Group called 'ArtManagers' can copy files to this folder and can read files, but can do nothing else.
    • Members of the 'Administrators' have full control (can read, write, modify, delete, etc)
    • Aside from the groups mentioned above, no one else will have permission to do anything in or with this folder
When I created this folder, I found that by default, the following Groups and Users had been assigned permissions:

    • Authenticated Users
    • SYSTEM
    • Administrators
    • Users
It was obvious to me that I wanted permissions to remain for the 'Administrators' Group and that I wanted to remove permissions for the 'Users' group, but I was not sure what the ramifications would be if I were to remove permissions from 'Authenticated Users' and 'SYSTEM'.

I anyone here can advise me whether I can safely do this, or if removing permissions from either of these groups would be a bad idea, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance,
    Paul
