Windows 10: Does resetting Windows allow changing user account name and home directory?

I just setup a new Surface Pro 7 and for some strange reason the user account name is zbern. This is the first 5 characters of my Microsoft email account. So, I followed 4 or 5 threads regarding resetting the account, none of which worked.My question is, if I reset my Surface Pro running Windows 10, will I then be able to specify the account name of bernie, so my home directory will be C:\Users\bernie?I don't recall having this option when I setup the Surface Pro.

going back to your original post.

when you create a new user, windows creates folders under the c:\Users directory with the account name (ie Geoff) if you rename the user, although the new name is shown on login etc the directory names don't change.

the easiest way to get rid of Geoff is to -

• change the username to something else (or back to Geoff)
• create a new user with your name
• copy all your documents, photos, videos etc. from Geoff to your new user
• delete the Geoff user account and remove folders etc.

this can all be done in user accounts as suggested by Ruth

 

Change local user account name in Windows 10

I've just reinstalled Win10 and created a second account for my wife. Unfortunately, the login names is the mail she's registered to Microsoft.

How can I change the name.

I've read an answer to same question suggesting following:

I don't have that option in Win10.

Perform the steps mentioned below to change the user account name.

• Sign in to the Your info page on the Microsoft account website.
  
• 
  Under your name, select Edit name.
  If there’s no name listed yet, select Add name.
  
• Edit or add the name you want, then choose Save.
  Your Microsoft account name will start to appear or change everywhere you use it.
  

Please revert if you still cannot change the user account name.
