Windows 10: Does storage sense deletion works for nested folder and files?

I have turned on storage sense deletion which works perfectly for the root level of the downloads folder, however, doesn't when there is any nested folder residing in there. Is this a known issue? If yes, beside manual cleanup, is there any other solution to this issue?***moved from Microsoft 365 and Office / Other / For business / Other***

Storage Sense does not delete files in my Downloads folder

I turned Storage Sense on a few weeks ago and set it to run every day. I also have Storage Sense set to delete files in my Downloads folder if they haven't been opened for more than 30 days.

However, nothing seems to be getting deleted from my Downloads folder, even though I have a lot of files in there which have not been opened for more than 30 days.

I know Storage Sense is deleting files in my recycle bin which have been there for over 30 days, so why isn't it also deleting Downloads which haven't been opened for more than 30 days?

 

Is there any way to see what files Storage Sense has deleted?

Were they in the Downloads folder? That's the only place where might keep files that Storage sense would delete them, and then only if you set it that way in Storage Sense settings: How to Prevent Storage Sense From Deleting Your Downloaded Files on Windows 10


Did you check in the Recycle Bin?

Next do a key word search in the Search box on taskbar, if it gets a hit then right click result to Show File Location to find the file(s).

Do you have any backups, like OneDrive Folder protection of Desktop, Documents or Pictures, Google Drive, other sync or backups, system image backups?

Based on the answers you post back I may have other suggestions.

 

Storage Sense not working on second drive

Thank You for the reply Amit, neither of the two steps changed the status of my problem.

Upon further investigation, I have identified the following issue.

My personal folders (due to the way they were in previous versions) are in the sub folder "users" of the D: drive for example the path to my Music files is "D:\Users\PROFILENAME\Music" and when I drill down in Storage Sense it shows the full volume of Music
files, but also "We couldn't find any folders to show you" (as my post) .

I copied an album to a new folder "D:\PROFILENAME\MUSIC" Then when I drill down, the contents is listed correctly as image below.

This proves that the contents of the user files are counted but not displayed if the user profile is nested in a folder at the root of a drive. This must be a BUG, you comments are appreciated.
