Windows 10: Does the windows.old folder contain the files that were stored on the desktop?

As the title states, I’m currently doing an install of Windows 10 for a friend of mine.

Because he has sensitive stuff on his desktop he wants to keep the old files instead of going for a fresh install, I know that when you choose that option it keeps a folder with the old files of the previous installation on the drive but does it contain the files that were stored on the previous desktop?

Want to be sure before I commit or know that I have to backup the files externally.

What is the Container folder and why is it missing?

They have 5 steps listed? Can you not get the files they mention in step 5? I can't tell if Containers is the name of a Windows file or just an internal reference or what.
