"Windows 10 supports a maximum of two physical CPUs" - does it mean the Windows 10 home support 2 physical CPUs, or is it like with Windows 7 and 8, where Home only supported 1 physical CPU?

It is physical sockets. Windows 10 Home 32bit should not have any problem supporting the AMD FX 6300 with 3 cores and 6 logical process in one socket.

What matters is the number of sockets / physical processors. Basically:

Win 10 Home: 1 socket / physical processor

Win 10 Professional: 2 sockets / physical processors

Windows Server: 3 or more sockets / physical processors.

Windows 8.1 didn't support 2 CPUs until the Pro edition, so I would imagine that it will be the same with Windows 10. *Sad

 

Yeah.... thought that might be the case *Sad*Sad*Sad. I have a HP Z800 workstation with two 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Xeon and 24GB of Ram... but a Windows 7 Home Premium license. Kinda wishful thinking that Windows 10 would solve my problem.

Usually that kind of set up is used for a Server, not for a desktop computer, unless you are doing some kind of CPU intense video editing, or using it for CAD.

Home editions limit you to only 4 GB of RAM. You would have to use a Pro or Enterprise edition to take advantage of that setup.

I was curious at to what crazy person would run a dual Xeon workstation but balk at buying a Pro license, but I see that the Z800 is old enough to be available cheaply in the used market.

The cost free option would be to run an Insider copy of Win 10 Pro. Such copies come with expiration dates, so you'd have to put up with periodic Insider updates to keep the machine running, but it's an option.

I'm not sure that it's possible to enroll in the Insider program at the moment, but I assume that MS will re-open that if it currently closed.
