Windows 10: DoNotSpy10 - any feedback/experience?

Has anyone heard of or tried this:

Download DoNotSpy10 - MajorGeeks

It looks like it does some useful things, but there's always the chance it isn't quite as smart as it thinks it is and causes more problems than it solves.

Windows 10's crazy data usage and how to stop it.

I am using O&O Shutup10 and DoNotSpy10 and I still use ~150 mb/hr on a metered connection. Any Idea how to stop this, I really want to buy another win10 computer, but that is the only think keeping me from it.

Wonder if CCleaner now has AVG pre-checked as optional install as they had done with Avast?

Checked developer website for DoNotSpy and they do not have a signed certificate.

Use O&O ShutUp10 instead.
It is portable and clean, and disables much deeper than DoNotSpy10

Again, I would hesitate to recommend any of these "automatic" privacy tools, as they tend to do irreparable damage to the system that is not necessarily noticed until a future time, when their "changes" have caused other Windows functions/features to fail or not install. I have had experience with users on this forum who have used O&O Shutup and I can not recommend it for that reason.

The post I prepared below, outlines all the privacy modifications a user can safely and easily make on the system, which are all totally and completely reversible, and should satisfy almost everyone - even the tin foil hatters like myself. *Wink

I've used O&O ShutUp10 on my two systems without any problems to date. It offers to make a restore point before changing settings and all settings are easily changed back to default.

 

I had to deal with the OpenCandy PUP years ago, it was a major annoyance.

 

The problem is that most people who use this a) don't know what it actually does under the cover, and b) forget they ran it. so, later on they have problems with Windows 10, and then they blame the OS and come here looking for help. Since we don't know that they ran this tool, we spend a lot of effort trying to chase down the problem, which was their own doing.

 

The problem is, people are running it for a perceived reason. Justified or not, that perception is there.

Yes, on at least one occasion in a thread both simrick and I were involved in. I'm sure simrick has had other cases as well.
