Windows 10: Don't show keyboard layouts popup on Alt-Shift, but still switch languages Windows 11

Hello.I'm using Windows 11, and when I change languages using Alt+Shift, a keyboard layouts popup *sometimes* appears in the bottom right corner of the screen. I wasn't able to figure out any specific pattern for its appearance, but I want to disable it completely. It is important, however, that solution of disabling Alt+Shift shortcut, offered in some other threads, won't work for me, because I still want the language to be switched when using Alt+Shift shortcut. Is there any way to achieve that?Best regards.

Why does Windows 10 switch the Language, but not the Keyboard layout on Alt + Shift?

I am a German Windows 10 user and I use both English and German Keyboard Layouts - German for writing texts and English for programming (because German Umlauts and English Special Characters share the same location).

I switch between these languages / layouts frequently, often without thinking about it using Alt + Shift.

A few days ago, the feature seemed to stop working. Alt + Shift does switch between languages, but not in the way I expected it:

The language bar shows "DEU" and when I switch it shows "ENG DE". Clicking on the language bar shows three configurations installed:





It shows:

• DEU (Deutsch / Deutsch-Tastatur)
  
• ENG US (English / US-Tastatur)
  
• ENG DE (English / Deutsch-Tastatur)
  

When

Switching using Alt + Shift, the System switches between DE and ENG-DE, which is not what I want. I have no idea how ENG-DE was installed, or where this combination is comming from.

• How do I remove the ENG-DE Language-Layout Combination?
  
• How do I make Alt+Shift switch between DE / EN, and not some other combination?
  

 

Alt-Shift doesn't change language

In Windows 7

Go to Start

Type on search:

Region and Language

Click on Keyboard and Languages tab

Then, Click on Change keyboards...

Click on Advanced Key Settings tab

Then select: Between input languages and click on Change Key Sequence...

In you case you will see both Switch Input Language and Switch Keyboard Layout options are Not Assigned.

you have to change

Switch Input Language to: Left Alt + Shift

And

Switch Keyboard Layout to Ctrl + Shift

Then Click OK

Alt + Shift shortcut does not change the keyboard language

Hi Omer,

Kindly try this three keyboard shortcuts that you can use to switch between your favorite languages and layouts.

1. Windows + Spacebar - activates the next keyboard language or layout. This is the only Windows 10 change language shortcut you can not modify.

2. Left Alt + Shift - the default shortcut to change the keyboard language in Windows 10. It ignores other layouts you’re using for the same language.

3. Ctrl + Shift - switches between different keyboard layouts used for the same language. It only works if you added an alternative key configuration for the active language.

As you can see, each keyboard language shortcut works differently. Furthermore, you can use shortcuts together with the language bar to quickly switch to the option you need.
