Double Click setup.exe vs. boot from USB drive

After downloading the Windows 10 Tech Preview I've made a bootable USB drive.

Am I able to just double click the setup.exe when the pc is on and at my desktop?

or do I have to restart & boot from the USB drive?

    Thank you in advance.

    :)

Not able to download Version 1607

Yes a Pen drive of 4GB or greater is OK

If you create the Installation on a pen drive, boot from the pen drive - change boot order in BIOS or in the case of an upgrade, run setup.exe on the pen drive from inside Windows 10

Alternatively, On Windows 10 you can run an ISO by double clicking it and it will be mounted as a virtual DVD then open Setup.exe to run the upgrade.

Try performing a clean boot then restart setup.

    Press Windows Key + R

    Type: msconfig

    Hit Enter

Go to the Services tab then click Disable all

    Click Apply then OK

    Restart then try setup again.

    If that does not work:

Are you using the Media Creation Tool, ISO, USB or DVD to install Windows 10?

If you are installing from the ISO, USB or DVD, browse the contents of the drive, then open the Sources folder, double click the file named
    setup.exe

There are quite a few files in there with the name setup, make sure you double click the one named
    setup.exe

Double Click setup.exe vs. boot from USB drive

Depends what you want to do. If you want to upgrade you can click on the .exe (you don't have to put it on USB - you can just mount the ISO).

If you want to clean install or change from 32bit to 64 bit you have to boot from it.

Clean install is 10x faster than upgrade.

Yes. You always have to clean install to replace 32 with 64. You can't upgrade.
