    Double Music Files, Different Formats

This has to do with iTunes, but believe it's more of a Windows question. On my iPhone I see some songs are listed twice. I believe this is because in the Music folder on my PC has some songs in both mp3 and m4a format. I'd like to delete the mp3 versions since the m4a version is smaller. This entails opening the folder for each album and looking at the songs. I've got a lot of music and got midway through B and gave up. Wondering if anyone knows of a way to look into the Music folder and get a list of any files in both formats. I realize that might be asking for a lot, but thought I'd try. Th

    question on music formats

MP3 is not worse because it's compression, but because it's lossy compression, meaning that it discards data, thereby reducing sounds quality. Ogg Vorbis is another lossy compressor that allegedly sounds better for the same file size and bit rate, but there are many others. There are also various lossless compressors, such as the ones that TRWOV just listed. Note that the file sizes are way bigger with these and are typically half the size of the original uncompressed WAV file.

I don't use iTunes, but I'm pretty sure it supports lossless. Winamp is supposed to be the daddy of music players, but use whatever you like best.

Use any CD burning software that can make audio format CDs. The typical one is Nero, but there's lots of free ones too - none of which come to mind, lol. Just use google to find them.

  3. Can't format an RW DVD with music files on it

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

It seems you are having difficulty formatting an RW DVD. Please follow the steps below to try to resolve the issue.

    1. Disable Write Protection

The RW DVD may be in a write-protected state. To disable this:

    1. Open the "Disk Management" tool: Search for "Disk Management" in the Windows search bar and open it.
    2. Locate the RW DVD drive. Check if the drive is in a write-protected state.
    3. In Command Prompt, run diskpart and enter the following commands:

    4. Verify that the disk's write protection has been removed and try formatting again.
    2. Try Formatting in Windows Explorer

You can format the RW DVD using Windows Explorer:

    1. Open File Explorer and right-click the RW DVD drive.
    2. Select "Format".
    3. Set the file system to UDF, select the "Quick Format" option, and click "Start".
    3. Try Formatting in Windows Disk Management

You can also format the disk using the Disk Management tool:

    1. Open "Disk Management" and locate the RW DVD drive.
    2. Right-click the drive and select "Format".
    3. Set the file system to UDF, select the "Quick Format" option, and click "Start".
    4. Use Third-Party Software

In addition to ImgBurn and AnyBurn, you can try using other third-party software.

    5. Check the Disk

The disk itself may have an issue. Try using a different RW DVD or check the disk for any physical damage.

    6. Update the Drive Firmware

The drive's firmware may be outdated. Download and update the latest firmware from the manufacturer's website.

    7. Try on a Different Computer

Try formatting the RW DVD on a different computer to see if the issue is specific to your computer.

If the problem persists after following these steps, the RW DVD disk itself may have a physical defect. Trying a new RW DVD disk may be a good solution.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Best regards

    Double Music Files, Different Formats

C Drive doubled after copying music files to OneDrive!

This is puzzling and frustrating. I moved my 30,000 (approx. 270G) of music files from OneDrive to Music folder recently. Then I decided to keep a copy on OneDrive, so copied them over there. All of a sudden my C Drive shows 607G full, which is about double
what it was before. I can't see any temp files or anything extra that would explain the additional size. My Carbonite app is also showing almost double the number of files backed up. And to make it all even more confusing, my OneDrive only shows 3.42G full
while listing all my music files, which makes no sense. HELP!

I am 70 years old, not as sharp as I used to be although I've used PCs since 1983. I can't understand all the instructions and lingo on support sites anymore. Please help me with simple step-by-step directions if you have a clue what might be going on. Thanks
in advance for kind and helpful replies Double Music Files, Different Formats :)
