    Double Users Folders after 10061

Very odd. These look like bogus junction points (symbolic links) in my user directory. Got this after 10049 to 10061 update. Reverted back to 10049 and tried again, same. Clean install 10061 from ISO, same. Did not have this before on any builds. Have included a screenshot and list of current junction points on PC. Any ideas?

    Deleted Data

    Hi Neil_J27 good morning . . .

    Double click the Windows.old folder

Inside you will find a Users folder, double click that

Inside the Users folder, you should see your account folder, double click that

Then check inside the documents, pictures folders . . . etc. to see if your files are in there . . .

  3. lost files and folders

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

After upgrading to Windows 10, all the personal files are saved in Windows.old folder.

If you're referring to the photos and emails inside the personal files which you had saved while upgrading to Windows 10, then, you may find it in
Windows. old folder. Follow the steps below to retrieve them:

    • Press Windows Key on the keyboard.
    • Enter Computer in the search box, and then tap or click Computer in the search results.
    • Double-tap or double-click the drive that Windows is installed on (typically, the C: drive).
    • Double-tap or double-click the Windows.old folder.
    • Double-tap or double-click the Users folder.
    • Double-tap or double-click your user name.
    • Open the folders that contain the files you want to retrieve.
    • Copy and paste the files that you want from each folder to a folder in
      Windows 8.1.
    • Repeat steps 5-7 for each user account on your PC.
Hope this information was helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

    That one threw me ...

They are "bogus" - they're tied to Desktop; not sure how that really works though - a name space?

The left pane in the image below shows a straight C:\Users view of my profile (one instance of the folders), the right pane shows the nav pane view of my profile (two instances of my folders).

Double Users Folders after 10061 [IMG]

These are very real (check the properties and notice that the location tab is the real folder).

Unfortunately, I never delved that deeply into how the how it's all tied together, but there's a difference between the C:\users profile and what gets displayed from the nav pane (going back even earlier to 'my documents' ).

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, maybe a spark will fire up someone's brain cells.

Win10 needs a lot of work. I've been test driving things in real world scenarios using what MS offers - the OS needs work, but the app model needs a lot more. They're joined at the hip tough.

Strange, must be something carried over from multiple version upgrades. An upgrade from a system that was installed clean from a more recent version (I installed the leaked 10036 and upgraded from that) doesn't even have a "Profile" node anymore. It's all just listed under This PC.

Also, I notice you don't have any arrows on your nodes, but mine does.

I'm really glad to see it's happening to others! Not meanly glad, just I thought I was going bonkers! To add to the mystery, if you go into, say one of the documents, and sort it by date, go into the other documents, sort it by name, get out of all, go back to your user folder and they have retained the different sort order for each!

I'm gonna let this one just be happy, and wait. I've dug through all the junctions on C: and nothing is obvious.

Thanks, to both, for the replies. *Smile

Side Note @Mystere, about the arrows... if your have your mouse cursor in the navigation pane, it will show arrows. If you move it to main pane, they fade away!

Oops! Don't delete one of the duplicates cuz they both go! *Redface

EDIT: No worries, they get re-created when called upon. *Wink

Ahh.. right. Never noticed that, it's that way even in Windows 8...

Still, the point being, I don't even have a "Profile" node in my left hand pane.

  12. I deleted one of each of the user system folders listed in the navigation pane and only one was deleted, the other was a dead end and reported that the folder was missing.

But ... as I warned in my previous post about the location, the REAL folder under my user profile was deleted.
I'm not sure what you mean by "when called upon" - I'll see if the real folders get recreated after signing out and in again.

Nothing was "restored to normal" as I wrote this, but looking around I noticed that the two new libraries:
Camera Roll & Saved Pictures were presented
... I'm fairly certain that I deleted those before - I definitely deleted them now

  14. I think we'll just have to live with it until MS fixes it ... or a member posts the registry key to change.

Do not delete the 'duplicate folders'. If you do, the real folder (Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos) will get deleted.
Mine were empty, so I could play and not lose anything. (I have to retest - the only folder automatically recreated was Documents, but I might not have waited long enough before I manually created the special folders deleted).

The duplicate references in the navigation pane return,, as Edwin mentioned, once the real folder exists.

I personally think it's not a bug or anything. Those are probably separate links for desktop and tablets modes that points to the same location.

Or probably local and microsoft account folder links.
