Windows 10: Downgrade from Windows 10 Enterprise to W10 Home?

Hello, I recently changed my motherboard and I'm now encountering the "Activate Windows" watermark on my screen. I ran the Activation troubleshooter and then pressed the "I changed hardware on this device recently" button to see this message: "Unable to activate Windows. We can't reactivate Windows as our servers aren't available right now. Wait for a few minutes or try adding your Microsoft account again.". It seems like there's no getting out of purchasing a Windows license for me, which is fine, but I am wondering if I'll encounter any issues buying an OEM Windows 10 Home license when my co

Luckily, you can quickly downgrade from Windows 10 Enterprise to Windows 10 Pro by just changing the product key to the one for Pro.

Hey Peter,

As long as you have a W10 Pro license linked to your MSA for that PC, you would be able to use the generic key under step 1 to downgrade from Enterprise to Pro, then let it automatically activate Pro with your digital license.

 

Downgrading Windows 10 enterprise to pro

The procedure is a bit arcane, but I have managed to convert an Enterprise Evaluation to Pro, doing it in two steps: EnterpriseEval to Enterprise (unactivated); then Enterprise (unactivated) to Pro. Details here.
