Windows 10: Downgrade Windows 10 Enterprise to Windows 10 Pro

Hi,
I have a W10 Enterprise Build 1607 ISO and product key kicking around gathering electronic dust so to speak. I've ignored it thus far but with recent annoying behaviour regarding updates in Pro I'm thinking of trying it.
As long as this Tutorial stands I see an "out" - however my current Pro's both don't have product keys, they are both upgrades from 7 and are linked to my hardware I guess.
I was thinking of upgrading one of them but maybe my best choice would be to install Enterprise on its own partition to see how it behaves.
Meanwhile I'm sticking like glue to my remaining W7 UIltimate as my main OS until it expires.

As long as you have a W10 Pro license linked to your MSA for that PC, you would be able to use the generic key under step 1 to downgrade from Enterprise to Pro, then let it automatically activate Pro with your digital license.

 

Thanks Shawn. Another question if I may, not really related but here goes. Will the activation process balk if I try to use my key on 2 separate partitions of the same drive & machine?

 

Technically (legally), a retail key is suppose to only be used to activate no more than one installation at the same time. That would be considered two installations.

It should activate both since they are on the same PC, but you can easily have one or both deactivated at some point in the future when activation checks in at Microsoft next.

I've been trying without success to do the eval to full trick before applying the pro version.

You don't need to do all of that to downgrade from Enterprise to Pro.

 

But it's not the full version of Enterprise I'm on. From what I understand my ONLY option is to do a fresh install of Pro.

Am I missing something?

To clarify, I was a hardened Windows Home Server user but when my system drive failed I couldn't successfully get the server to run properly even after restoring the good backup.

I decided to check out whether Windows 10 would do what I needed so I grabbed the enterprise evaluation and that's what I've been running on for the past 5 days. I'm happy now that I can work with this as a long term solution so I'm looking to convert the evaluation to some form of full version by purchasing the necessary licence.

 

What happens when you try the method in the tutorial to downgrade from Enterprise to Pro using a Pro product key?

 

I've not bought the windows pro key as I wasn't sure if I would still be screwed if I went that route!

Where's the best place to buy a windows 10 pro product key? A lot on ebay/amazon say that you need to download and install a fresh install and then activate it with their keys, concerned about getting a dodgy key that's of no use!

 

Other than from a trusted retailer, the best and safest place would be directly from Microsoft.

I'm pleased to report that all worked well and can confirm that my enterprise evaluation has now been converted to a full version of windows 10 pro with no loss of apps or files

I am new member on Ten Forums and I am not experienced computer user

I am trying to downgrade Win 10 Enterprise to Pro version. I got this computer from my friend's company and it has installed full Win 10 Enterprise version with original key. But I can't activate because I got communicate that I need to be connect with company network. I asked my friend and he told me that IT made mistake and I should have installed Pro version (I have a correct key). But when I am trying to change product key I got error 0x004f014. Do you know what can I do?

I'll be gratefull for help.

Did you mean error 0xC004F014 instead?

*Arrow Activation Error Codes for Volume Activation

0xC004F014 - The Software Protection Service reported that the product key is not available - MAK/KMS client - No product keys are installed on the system.

Troubleshooting steps - Install a MAK product key, or install a KMS Setup key found in \sources\Product.ini on the installation media.

If you like, you could clean install to Windows 10 Pro, and activate with your Pro key.

I dont want to install clean Pro version because I have a data on disk and installed programs.

But, I dont know how to install a KMS Setup key found in \sources\Product.ini
