    I bought a brand-new PC laptop eight months ago. It's running Windows 10, and I install Windows updates as soon as they become available.

    The only browser on the machine is Microsoft Edge.

    I am also running the latest version of McAfee Antivirus Plus, which I installed as soon as I purchased the machine.

    One month ago, as I attempted to install Google Chrome, I was presented with an error message:

    "ChromeSetup.exe contained a virus and was deleted."

    It does this for EVERYTHING - all trusted applications; Chrome, Zoom, Firefox, etc."[program name]Setup.exe contained a virus and was deleted."

    Someone suggested running "Malwarebytes," but, like I said, it will download and install NOTHING.

    I've uninstalled McAfee, reverting to Windows Defender, adjusted firewall settings, even ensured that ALL of my browser and security settings are IDENTICAL to those on my other PC which is running perfectly, but the same problem occurs.

    I have also re-booted in Safe Mode with networking, and get the exact same error.

    Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?

    downloads met with "contained a virus---deleted"

    I think this is an older problem, but somehow I am just noticing it. Anytime I try to download, save, save as, etc something from an email, the info comes back with "...…… contained a virus and was deleted". Super frustrating especially when I know these
    are safe files!!!! Help?
