I was stuck at 95% for 15 hours. I restarted but, rather than run the troubleshooter, I went straight back to Update & Security and clicked 'Try again' - worked perfectly this time, just 10 more minute to complete.
    Cumulative Update KB3189866 Windows 10 build 14393.187

  3. I logged on powered up about an hour ago and it showed 95% still like last night.. in about 10 mins showed 100%, then preparing to install... and seems to be installing ok...

Just pressed restart and it is in the process of restarting...

    OK, all updated...

Could it be they released to too many all at once yesterday?

Thanks for the advice in here regarding the manual download of the update.

I have done this but have another problem - the update is still showing in my update status as sitting at 45% despite the fact that I have manually downloaded and installed.

When I go into my update history it is showing that the security update was manually installed okay but there is no way of removing it from the update status. I thought that when I manually installed it then it would recognise this and no longer show up.

    Any help would be appreciated.

How would you know an update was running when you shutdown unless you happened by chance to look at Windows Update in Settings. Shutting-down shouldn't make any difference as Win Update should manage the background process.

Download Problems with Cumulative Update Version 1607 (KB3189866) x64

I too had the same problem where the download stuck at 47% and then I had to go to that Manual download page and then was told I had to have IE and then the download took forever it seemed. I was not happy when Win 10 first came out and now after purchasing my own Win 10 computer and am still unhappy with Win 10. I loved Win 7 and now I am growing to hate Win 10. Do you know how much time I have wasted trying to get this Win 10 to work for me? I had wasted many hours trying to get critical updates downloaded to my Win 7 a short time ago and now Win 10 is giving me the same problem with this extra large download today. After I did the manual download, I went back to the Download History page to see if it did download and that page still had the bar graph at 47% for the first time I tried to download this KB 3189866. I hope someone from MS reads this post as I am one UN-happy customer!!! My time is too valuable to be wasting it on Win 10 downloads, etc.

Thanks, your solution worked for me.

  10. Windows update stuck open Command Prompt (Admin).

    type

    1. net stop wuauserv

    2. net stop bits

Next browse to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and delete all the files and folders inside.

If the files are in use, and you are unable to delete some files, restart your device. After rebooting, (run the above commands again.)

After you have emptied this folder, you may restart your computer or you may type the following commands one at a time in the CMD, and hit Enter to restart the Windows Update related Services.

    open Command Prompt (Admin)

    type

    1. net start wuauserv

    2. net start bits

    restart computer

Stuck on 3 PCs 2 desktops 1 laptop at 45% for more than 15 hours now.
Tried Microsoft Fix It tool no luck.

Tried manual fix from admin command prompt 1)stopping windows update related services 2) Deleting/renaming update folders 3) restarting services still no luck.

Only thing left is to try manual install after downloading from update catalog.

Same here. When I tried to run the manual download, errored out: "Installation program not for your system." What? Windows 10/ 1607... excuse me.... and to top it off, tried to stop wuauserv as in above post, but wouldn't allow until I stopped bits service first. Still stuck.

These are the kind of things we were afraid of when MSFT changed everything and put all the eggs into one basket.
