Windows 10: Download Speed Being Throttled

Hi Everyone,

Totally stumped on this. My internet is being severely throttled by windows 10 or a driver and I've tried everything on Google so far. I should be getting over 500mpbs but its being capped to < 20mpbs wired and <6mpbs over 5G wifi.

I have fixed it once a couple days ago by reformatting and reinstalling windows but that isn't a viable solution if it keeps happening. I know it's this computer because my phone and laptop get proper speeds btw.

When I check the status of my ethernet it says the speed is 100mpbs (should be 1000) and the wifi card is at 54mpbs (again should be gigabit)

Here are the things I've tried so far...
- uninstalled both lan and wireless drivers
- reset my network
- uninstalled my amd vega 64 drivers
- Changed duplex settings
- Manually reinstalled Realtek ethernet drivers
- and a bunch of other randoms things on cmd prompt. Sorry that one isn't specific or much help.

Any help would be amazing!

Browsing speed is fast, but download speed is 0

I'm currently using Windows 10 and netcomm nb604n router.

Problem:
Web browsing on chrome/edge/firefox works fast, but my download speed from majority of websites start around 10kb/s and eventually (in a few minutes) decrease to 0kb/s.

When I am downloading from utorrent, or when I installed the Unity engine through Unity's installer, my download speed was fine.

Things that I have tried:

1. Running the test on speedtest.net. It says that my download speed is 18MB/s and upload speed is 1Mb/s. Of course this doesn't demonstrate the actual speed that I'll get when downloading/uploading from a server, but my ISP is using this to say that there is no problem on their side.
   
2. Taking my router, filter, and all cables to another house and downloading the same files that I couldn't download. This worked perfectly fine, so I'm guessing that my equipment is not the issue.
   
3. Using both wireless and LAN on a brand new computer and an old laptop. The problem exists in all cases.
   
4. Resetting and restarting the router. Did not do anything.
   
5. Changing the mtu settings as suggested on Windows 7, download speeds drop to 0 kb/s and the download has to be restarted
   Unfortunately this didn't solve my issue.
   
6. Calling my ISP to make sure that they weren't throttling my network. They are denying any fault on their end, and are claiming that there is something wrong with my computer or my router but refusing to provide a solution.
   

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas on what I could try to resolve this issue, please let me know!

 

Slow Download Speed

• I would suggest you to test the speed using any of the speed test website or app to confirm the upload and download speed.
• I also suggest you to reset the wireless router to check if that helps.

Windows 10 throttles internet download speed. Wonky built-in settings?


Windows 10 appears to throttle internet speed.

The link tested is
http://sfo-korg-mirror.kernel.org/op...DVD-x86_64.iso

It will start out at 20MB/s, then throttle down to just 200KB/s. !!!! It will sit at this superslow speed for a while, then climb up later, only to throttle down super slow again.
This is a dedicated server on a gigabit line.

At home, my 100mbps line holds the download steady at 100mbps. No speed dip.

I know very little about how Windows controls transfer speeds, but I have read about Windows auto adjusting the tcp window and such.

It seems the netsh settings are helping and hurting.


Also, I have 10mbps upload speed at home, and when I try to upload to my 1gbps server, the speed is throttled at 1.5mbps.
It starts at 10mbps, then quickly throttles.


Whatever is working behind the scenes seems to be contributing to the server's slow download speed, and my slow upload from home.

If I disable auto-tuning, speeds are even worse.
The http server goes from maxing out my 100mbps line, to <10mbps.
So outbound speeds from the server suffer, and inbound speeds to the server still suffer.
