Windows 10: Downloading OneNote 2016 but can't log-in to Microsoft account

I'm trying to install OneNote 2016 from the Microsoft site and it wants me to login to my Microsoft account. I have a Microsoft 365 subscription that doesn't expire until October so I'm entitled to OneNote 2016 and I prefer it to OneNote for Windows 10.

I gave it my login email address but it told me it can't find that address. Which is interesting because I'm logged-in to it all the time. I even checked my account page lol. Anyway, my account email is my first & last name so it's microsoft@myname.com. But MS seems to only see the myname.com part of the address and tells me it "isn't in [their] system."

I went thru MS's support wizard thing, but there's nothing that pertains to my dilemma. What else can I do?

OneNote 2016 opening on startup

Hi,

In order to turn off or disable OneNote 2016 at startup, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the Taskbar, and select Task Manager.
• On the bottom right of the Task Manager window, click the drop-down arrow to open
  More details.
• Click the Startup tab. This tab shows the programs that are enabled on Startup.
• Right-click OneNote 2016, and click Disable.
• Click File, then Exit.
• You may then restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Can't log into OneNote and other apps. Problem with accounts?


I tried what you suggested.

Went to user account and clicked link to use Microsoft account to log in.

email and password accepted at first. Then there was a reprompt for the password and this time the password was NOT accepted. Perhaps the first entry hadn't really been accepted - maybe that was the reason for the reprompt. No way to tell. The result was the same as trying to get into OneNote.

Wierd. wierd.

Has anyone heard of a bug in the Windows 10 Microsoft account login? I did find references to a bug at other sites but cannot find that site again.

OneNote log-in without Hello

Windows Hello Pin is not a setting in OneNote but a setting in Windows 10: control panel>Account>sign in options. You can add, change or remove it here. For more information:
Sign in to your Microsoft account with Windows Hello or a security
key.
Learn about Windows Hello and set it up.



If suggestions above don’t solve the issue, for further troubleshooting, could you please share us with information below?

1. Which OneNote do you use? OneNote 2016 or OneNote for Win 10?
2. Could you please share us with a screenshot of the pop-up?
