    Downloading Sea of Thieves from the Microsoft Store causes drive failure


    I am trying to download and install Sea of Thieves from the Microsoft Store on my Windows 10 PC.


    I have a secondary drive I use for games 1TB Seagate HDD. When I download the game on the HDD it downloads fine for the first bit but after some time it crashes the drive. I then need to restart my PC in order to get the drive back online again.


    Steps taken to re-create the problem:

    - Go to MS Store Sea of Thieves page.

    - Press install.

    - Select secondary drive D: drive.

    - Download starts.

    - After a while seems random, no particular time/ download amount i get a message from my Intel Rapid Storage Manager that a drive has been removed.

    - MS Store page shows download has stopped due to unknown error.

    - Drive no longer shows up on my PC I tried: diskpart, drive manager, Speccy, cant find it anywhere.

    - Turn off PC.

    - Start PC back up.

    - Drive shows up again with 0 issues.


    Steps I've taken to ensure drive is not the problem:

    - Installed a new SATA-cable.

    - Checked the drive health using Windows tools properties manager, defragmentation tool no problems found.

    - Checked drive health using 3rd party tool Seagate SeaTool no problems found.


    PC specs:

    - i7-6700k

    - Nvidia GTX1080

    - 16GB Kingston HyperX DDR4 RAM

    - NMVE m.2 SSD main drive/C: drive

    - 1TB Seagate HDD secondary drive/D: drive

    - Windows 10 Education


    The most logical explanation seems that the drive is busted, however the drive works fine except when doing the above mentioned and no problems can be found on the drive by any of the drive health checking tools I've used.


    Does anyone know how to fix this.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the reply.

    Kindly follow the below steps.

    Step 1: Launch Microsoft Store and click on the Account icon on the top right corner of Microsoft Store.

    Step 2: Enter the email address that you used during the purchase of Sea Of Thieves game. (The email address that you have received as purchase verification mail for Sea Of Thieves).

    Step 3: Once you have logged into Microsoft Store, search for Sea Of Thieves game by clicking on the Search bar on the top right corner of Microsoft Store.

    Step 4: Select the Sea Of Thieves game, download and install.

    Hi Christopher,

    Sorry for the delayed response. We identified this issue regards downloading Sea of Thieves from Windows Store App and we still working on it to fix the problem. As a workaround, we suggest following the steps below:

    • Cancel all existing download on the Store app.
    • Start the download of Sea of Thieves once again.
    • As soon as the download starts, immediately restart the computer.
    • After the reboot, do not launch the Store app instead wait for the passive download which you can check in the Action Center. Then it will automatically install by itself and then open the game without any issues.

    For any results, please let us know.

    I cannot download Sea of Thieves on PC from microsoft store.

    This workaround worked for me first time of trying it. I had the same issue as the OP.
