Windows 10: DPC Watchdog BSOD Windows 10 1607

So far no crash but noticed on 3 machines degraded performance freezing up at times while surfing the web etc. I am going to wait few more days if continues I will revert these machines back with the other driver till Microsoft & Nvidia makes a fix. On this machine so far good over a day no crash.

 

Well that's good you've had no crashes at least. Hopefully Microsoft/Nvidia will get around to fixing the issue in the near future though at least for now it's nice not having to worry about the constant crashes.

 

I've been living with this "24Hr Bug" as well since version 1607 was released last July.
Having found this thread, I used Device Manager to replaced all instances of 'NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller' with the Microsoft Standard Dual Channel IDE Controller.
Tonight, for the first time since the beginning of August, my system has run for more then 1 day and 15 minutes without crashing!

Yeah my affected PC is just a few hours away from 7 days of up time now. Very glad.

I actually found a way to auto login to Windows after a restart the same day I found the alternate driver fix, which was typical. I set it up anyway just in case it was needed.

I used the netplwiz option and it seems to work fine.

 

Hello, I've also encountered this problem when I updated to 1607, thrice. The first and second time made it to 20+ hours but the last time I tried it blue screens within a min after booting. The worse thing is, it messes up the audio every time and doesn't get better even if I go back to 1511 and reinstall the audio drivers. I got the audio back with mere luck and I couldn't dare to try one more time. But now I have switched the old hdd to a Samsung 850 evo and a hgst hdd so I thought I might get lucky this time. Did you solve this problem? If so how did you do it? Plz help, much obliged. I wouldn't mind using an older version until I've decided to buy the xbox 1s controller and I am told that it only works on 1607.

 

Hey there, you may see from the last handful of posts in this thread that we did find a workaround which prevents the crashing.

If you go to device manager, then under "Storage Controllers" find any references to NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller.
Right click on those and update driver, select 'browse for driver' and then 'let me pick'.
Change the driver to Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller.
Once you've changed all references, restart the PC and you should be good.

DrSysop did mention he'd noticed a slight negative performance impact on one or more of his PCs after making this change, but not all of his PCs. I didn't notice any change to performance on the PC I changed the driver for and I use the same SSD you've just upgraded to so hopefully you wont either.

 

Hi, thnx for relying. My pc is a Dell 7557(i5) laptop which I don't know if is the reason I can't find what you said. I have Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and Microsoft Storage Controller under Storage Controllers . I've searched online and all the solutions are the same: change the driver to Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller for the previous, which I tried and it didn't work for my last 2 trials.

 

Yes, I noticed decreased in speed on my PC's with 7200 rpm drives, But the others with 5400 rpm seems fine.

also signed up, because this is the exact issue i have since the last few days.
But when trying to replace the NVidia Sata Controllers with the Standard Dual Channel controllers my desktop won't find the Boot device on startup and crashes.
So i had to change them back again.
Is there still no official solution for this?

I guess, maybe, just maybe, all the updates and patches of 1607 up until now have fixed the problem and if you can find a way to keep it running long enough to update to the newest version or simply download the newest pack that doesn't need additional updating, it would probably do. Good luck!

 

I, like grisu, tried the fix but, upon reboot, ended up with desktop not finding the Boot device on startup and going in a merry circle of Windows Defender running, then rebooting to no Boot device, over and over.
grisu was able to figure out a way to undo replacing the NVidia Sata Controllers with the Standard Dual Channel controllers but I can't figure out a way to do it since my Windows 10 won't boot. Can anyone help me reverse what I have done?

 

Same problem with a number of client PCs and one in-house here in the UK - not good Microsoft !
