    DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION after Windows Update


    I have been experiencing frequent BSOD crashes that are being attributed to the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION stop code. I have been troubleshooting over the last month or so with no avail, using all the tips across the internet regedit, performance mode, DDU, replacing PSU, testing memory & drives, underclocking GPU, turning expo off on RAM, etc., I had almost given up, thinking it must be hardware related already tried returning GPU and had the RMA rejected when I decided to do one more fresh install yesterday 14th of Jan 2024, this install resulted in no crashes. I left the computer over

    It is possible that the error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION may occur if the iastor.sys driver is incompatible with Windows 10. To isolate your issue, we'd like to gather more information:

    Blue screen: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

    After a recent updating, my machine has blue screen every 5 - 10 minutes.

    The error code is DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

    I saw another post here which suggest to use "iastor.sys". But I don't have that in the driver list. Mine is storahci.sys.

    Please advise! Thanks,

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    This issue could be due to the Windows update installed is corrupt. I would suggest you to perform a system restore and let us know the status. Follow the below steps to perform system restore.


    • Press Windows key + R and type
      rstrui       and hit enter.
    • Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the System Restore.
