In short: There is a serious driver issue either some code/data inside the driver itself or a kernel driver on the driver stack while using a D-Link device with its Microsoft signed D_rtwlanu.sys driver. The "rt" in the driver name propably indicates a Realtek chipset. The entire system instantly freezes right after connecting to a 5 GHz AC network and keeps frozen for approx. 10-15 seconds. Finally the system goes down with a bugcheck of type DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. On the other hand, connecting to a 2.4 GHz network works fine. No hang, no bluescreen. I didnt check the device/driver on Wi

Wifi driver and 5 GHz frequency, Xfinity hot spots

I can't see the xfinity hot spots using my Lenovo W540. Other devices can see the hot spots, Xfinity says the hot spot exists. My laptop does see some of the available wifis. Xfinity hot spots run on the 5 GHz frequency - the driver on my laptop seems to show only 2.4 GHz options even though the driver is listed as "n" - 2x2 11bgn Wireless LAN M.2 Adaptor. The driver is up to date according to the computer.

    • 802.11a/ac uses 5 GHz band
    • 802.11b/g uses 2.4 GHz band
    • 802.11n uses either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands

Xfinity's solution - turn on location services....I said no

Please advise, this is taking over our lives!

AC WiFi connecting as N protocol WINDOWS 10 64 BIT

AC Wireless standard is part of the 802.11 family of a 5 Ghz band. Based on your post your connection type is set to 802.11n and the transmission rate is ranging to 585 MBit/s. We suggested that you contact ISP for them to see on their side if there is something
that you have to check in the web UI of your router. We’ll do our best to help you try to change the N protocol to your desired set-up. Try these steps to see if your connection type is set to 802.11ac:

    • Press Windows key + X, then select Device Manager.
    • Click the dropdown list for your Network Adapters, then right-click on the driver for your USB stick.
    • Select Properties, then Advanced Tab.
    • Under Advanced Tab, check the following:
      • 40MHz Intolerant is enabled.
      • Wireless Mode value is 802.11ac
      • 800.11n is disable
    • Try running netsh wlan show interfaces again, to see if there are changes.

Keep us in the loop with the results.
