    Drag and Drop to Windows Taskbar App No Longer Working


    I have always been able to drag one or more files from a folder to an open minimized App on the Windows 10 taskbar and have that App open up so that I can drop the files on there and open the files in that App. Lately, this has stopped working. I'm guessing some Windows Update may have messed this very useful feature up.


    Now, when I drag a file, it stalls out right above the Taskbar and freezes the machine for a few seconds. The drag and drop is never successful.


    Has anyone else encountered this issue and figured out how to solve it?

    Hi Charles,

    the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

    In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

    Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

    My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.

    VB.NET combobox drag and drop no longer is firing the drag drop events

    Up until possibly the last windows 10 update, my app and its controls were working fine with drag and drop. Now they do not. The drag drop events are no longer being fired. I have tried everything I know to try.

    Cant Drag & Drop in Certain Apps.

    I cant drag & drop files in certain applications.

    • Browsers will no longer let me drag a url into the toolbar or on the desktop.
    • Photoshop, etc. . will no longer let me drag and drop files into other files.

    This is driving me insane & taking alot of time. Any help would be great. (I have another machine running everything the same with no problems)
