Windows 10: drag & dropping image files from firefox creates .url files that cannot be deleted

Lately it happened several times, that when downloading image files per drag & drop, a .url link was stored instead of the image fileThe file created by windows? is a .url link extension always hidden with peduliar name and content see below.The file cannot be deleted or modifield.The folder can only be deleted after a restart, as Windows claims an open file in the folder even if the .url file is the only one in the folder.The file I "downloaded" a few minutes ago has the name:data image_png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAARwAAACxCAMAAAAh3_JWAAABrVBMVEX_853_oIQAAADc9fgOKz_I6ffXann_

Since Firefox v68 the drag and dropping of an image from the browser (firefox.exe) to Windows File Explorer or Desktop (explorer.exe) is not working anymore.

• Tried turning it off and on again didn't work
  
• Started firefox in safemode with no add-ons didn't work
  
• Started windows in safe mode and then started firefox in safemode with no add-ons didn't work
  
• Drag n Drop + holding Ctrl key didn't work Drag n Drop + holding Alt key didn't work
  
• Created a new profile didn't work
  
• Re-installed v68 didn't work
  
• uninstalled and erased ALL firefox files, then installed v68 didn't work
  
• Installed v68 on a fresh install of Windows didn't work
  
• Installed a fresh copy of Windows on a freshly assembled computer and made a fresh installation of v68 Firefox didn't work
  
• Reverting to Firefox v67 did work !!
  

So after investigation it must be an issue with the Firefox 68 update.

Yes, I tried creating another account on my Windows Server 2016 system and I was successfully able to drag and drop using Firefox.. Now there's just the task of transferring all my files over to the new account. Thank you very much for your help. Now I only hope things continue to work lol.

Steps to reproduce the problem in Windows 10:

Enable the built-in Administrator account.
Sign in as Administrator
Open Firefox at any page with an image, such as an Avatar image from this page.
Click and drag the image from Firefox and try to drop it onto the Desktop

This is not allowed for Administrator, but is allowed for any other user, creating a .webp image on the Desktop that can be opened in Firefox.






However, I found that when signed in as Administrator in Windows 10 Pro the second suggestion in your link worked for me.
