Windows 10: Dragging shortcuts into windows task bar no longer working

This literally just worked the other day or maybe other week but regardless.....It has taken me quite some time to figure out how to do this still looking, which means less time for me to be "productive" at work because I am trying to find workaroundsWhat purpose does it serve to have a useless taskbar filled with icons that Windows seems to think are important to me and I cannot change? Can I just revert to windows 10 settings somehow?

Windows 10 move .bat shortcut to task bar

I want to be able to launch a .bat file I've written from the task bar.

I've successfully created the shortcut and have located it in Explorer. However, Windows doesn't do anything when I drag the shortcut to the task bar, and it doesn't display "task bar" as a destination in the "Send To" menu.

Is this a new restriction, or is it possible to have a bat launcher on the task bar?

Steps to reproduce:

• Create a .bat file on the desktop (contents don't matter).
  
• Create a shortcut to that .bat file.
  
• Try to drag the shortcut to the task bar from Explorer.
  
• Right-click the shortcut and look in vain for some way of making it launchable from the task bar.
  
• GIVE UP

how to successfully pin files to the task bar

I use to be able to drag and drop files onto the task bar and they would reside withing the file list for that program. Since the recent upgrade it appears that I am not able to pin a file to the program on the task bar. Suggestions?

 

Desktop Shortcut Icons

The desktop shortcut created for a specific website should bear the website's actual logo. With what you've experienced, there could be something wrong with how the shortcut was created.

If you've created the shortcut by selecting Create shortcut, then we suggest that you try the other way, that is by dragging the website icon that appears in the address bar to your desktop. Follow these steps:

• Using Internet Explorer, access a website.
• Once the website opens, you will see its icon in the address bar.
• Click and drag the icon on your desktop.

The website shortcut bearing its actual logo should now be saved on your desktop.
