Windows 10: Dreaded Windows 10 - 2004 update

Noticed that others are having similar problem to me when accepting update to Windows 10 version 2004 - this totally ruined my HP laptop and I discovered that my SSD had been totally destroyed. I have seen an on line video which explains that fault in download means system is defragged continuously thus wearing down hard drive. How can I resolve this? My second laptop is now vulnerable as it has just said the dreaded 2004 download is ready. Only answer it seems is to prevent the update. I have put it on hold until end of October but what do I do then? What is happening Mr Windows? I am no tech expert! Help!

Having problem update to Windows 10, version 2004
