Shrinking of C Drive is Not possible

    windows 8.1

i have total space of around 220 Gb in C drive which i would like to reduce and transfer the space to other drive. when i tried the 'Shrink' option, it showed available shrink of around 5Gb which reduced the C drive to 215 Gb.

How to further REDUCE the volume in C drive and Transfer the space to Other Drives?

    Help me out.

    how to creat D drive

    Hi sanjay Lenka,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Here are the steps to create a new D Drive partition:

Right click your Start Button, and open Disk Management from the resulting menu.

Right click your C drive and select 'Shrink'

You need to shrink the C drive partition, the amount you want to use for the D drive partition, the calculation they use is 1000 = 1GB, so for example if you want the D drive to be 50GB, set the shrink to 50000

Wait for the C drive to be shrunk

Then right click the resulting 'Unallocated Space' and select New - Simple Partition' and accept the defaults.

A Question about Shrinking a Drive to another Drive

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Windows has very limited partitioning ability, it can only extend a partiton into a space that is directly to the right of the partiton you want to extend.

Th problem you have is when you shrink the D drive partiton, the resulting space will be to the right of the D drive partiton and Windows cannot extend the C drive partiton into that space.

You will need to use a 3rd party partitioning tool like the free version of AOMEI Partiton Assistant to shrink the D drive partiton and then merge the C drive partiton into that space.
