Windows 10: Drive D - disk reader

I would like to back-up data on drive D but when I insert a blank disk it asks that I format the disk. It will not allow me to format the disk. Is there a way to format a blank disk is Drive D? I am using a Dell Inspiron 15R 5521

  Is the D: drive located on the same hard disk or on different hard disk?
  
• 
  Did you have any important data saved on the
  D: drive?
  

If the D: is saved on another hard disk and you are unable to access it, I suggest you to format the drive completely and check if the issue is resolved.



To format the hard disk, follow the steps below:

• 
  Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
  Disk management option.
  
• 
  Right click on the D: drive and select
  Format option.
  
• 
  Wait for the formatting to complete and check if the changes are effective.

Drive D error no disk

Greg, I noticed that Drive D, the device 'asking' for media, is listed as a 'multiple card reader USB device'. I clicked on the events for this device and there were three, all on May 17, 2017: migrated, configured (disk.inf), started (disk). Is this
'drive' part of the internal hardware in the computer? The date, May 17, is about the time the messages started. Can I disable this 'drive'?

By the way, MSN Explorer, an installed program, is like local Outlook. It is supplied by Microsoft and works between MSN online and the computer. It allows filing of email messages in local folders, group list email addresses, interfaces with Bing....I've
used it for years. We pay for MSN Explorer every year.

 

D drive

  attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*

• Select This PC.
