  1. Drive got f***ed while trying to add an SSD as a boot drive

Long story short, I attempted to switch boot drives by installing windows separately onto the new SSD. (To clarify, the HDD that used to be my only drive was not connected, as I didn’t want to overwrite my old account.) I thought I would be safe because “Oh, if there’s an issue I can just boot from my HDD and everything will be back to normal.” When it loaded, I had no access to any of my files and it was basically just a new PC with a drive containing a user (my old acct) whose content I couldn’t access. I removed the SSD and tried to just boot the HDD, assuming that I would be able to access my old account and data and work from there. When I loaded the HDD as both my boot drive and data drive, however, the account from the SSD was the only one available. At first I thought just appdata had been screwed with, but I soon realized it was as if my old account just fell off the face of the earth. My PC recognizes that the old account exists and everything, but it won’t show up as an account I can use, so what happened to it? And, more importantly, is there any way I can recover the old account?

I’m aware I didn’t do the best job explaining the situation thoroughly, so if there’s any missing information you need to help then I’ll respond when I can.

  2. f drive

    Hello Kathy,

Based on the information you have provided in your post; we need to do further investigation. To assist you better, we'd like to know the following:

    • Have you tried using a third party software to manage the disk partition?
    • Did you format the drive?

We suggest that you check for the drive in the Disk Management and look if it appears. Follow these steps:

    • Log on as administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
    • Press Windows+R key and type diskmgmt.msc and then click OK.
Look if the Drive F: appears and check if it is unallocated.

    Looking forward to your update.

  3. SSD as Boot Drive? How?

Well, I have Windows installed on the SSD, along with the drivers and browser. Now, I'm trying to install other stuff (Steam, games, etc.), but the mechanical drive isn't showing. I'm sure I missed a step?

Drive got f***ed while trying to add an SSD as a boot drive

    Windows 10 missing F drive

Followed all steps as directed. diskmgmt, msc does not list F: drive and none of the unallocated drives is large enough to be my F: (Samsung SM-G920V). Any brighter ideas?
