Ever since the drive went into the red (almost full warning), whenever I try to open it, but only on the first attempt in a while, it shows that error.

This drive is one of those green drives, where it sleeps or something after a while, then takes longer to spin up than a normal drive. I used to not use it often, now I've been using it multiple times per week doing disc backups.

The error also happens (but not as frequently) on another drive that's almost full (but is a normal drive), and it seems to be that Explorer gives up prematurely and pops up the error while just waiting for it to spin up or is scanning whatever crap it thinks it needs to scan to make my Explorer navigation experience faster...

Because clicking the drive again, after the error, works perfectly fine, and I've already scanned the drives for issues with no problems found, I don't think there's a problem with the drives, I think Windows 10 is just not giving itself enough time to wait for the drive and scan the folders.

I'd like to increase the time it waits before showing this nonsense generic error. I'm OK waiting rather than adding multiple clicks each time I try access these two drives for the day.

    :)

    Driver host process timeout.

    Hi,

The default timeout interval for the Driver host process is 60 seconds. If the driver couldn't respond as expected within this period, it's possible that the driver is outdated or incompatible with the operating system. We'll be able to provide the appropriate
steps to resolve the timeout error once we have more information, so please answer these questions:

    • Just to confirm, did this error only happen after you installed Fall Creators Update?
    • What is the make and model of your device?
    • Did you encounter this error while your computer was idle, or were you using a specific program?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

    CD drive error

    1) Close all open programs
    2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
    3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    Class
    {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

    UpperFilters
    LowerFilters
    UpperFilters.bak
    LowerFilters.bak
    5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
    6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
    7) Reboot your computer
    8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

And it likely has something to do with the emulated drive you have listed there.
