Drive Sharing Problem with Inconsistent Credentials and Permissions

I apologize for the length, but I think the information may be useful in solving the problem. I am experiencing network file sharing problems. I’ll describe them, then at the end I’ll lay out what I’ve already tried. Any help is appreciated.BACKGROUNDSituation: One desktop Win10 D7, two laptops Win11 13, 15, two laptops Win10 X, DX. Objective: to share files using Advanced File Sharing both from my sign-in and my wife’s sign-in. I’ve done a round robin to test which are working and in most cases it works. But a few persistent connections won’t. On each PC I’ve shared the c:\ OS partitio

  2. Permission issue, shared drive Windows 10.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We can understand your concern. However, we would need some more information regarding the issue.

    1. May I know the exact error message?
    2. Have you shared all hard drives or any particular folder within the particular hard drive?

Since you have mentioned that you are getting error related to permission issue, please refer to the troubleshooting steps provided by “Azee N” dated June 2nd 2010 on
Providing permission to drive and try
    providing permission to the drive.

If the issue still persists, we would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to re-map the drive.

    1. Disconnect the drive by right click on the drive and select disconnect (if the drive is mapped).
    2. Then re-map the drive by referring to Map a network drive
and check if it resolves the issue.

    Regards,

Problem sharing files and Network Credentials error

Hi, networking in Win 10 is frustrating to set up and requires multiple steps- you are far from alone in reporting issues. Indeed, even when it is correctly configured people have found it needs 'help' so when you boot up or resume a PC, networking is re-established in a reasonable time.

From the Tutorial section (do take time to become familiar with this fantastic resource):
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/

Here's the starting point for setting it up:
Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10

Note that related tutorials are always listed after the main body of the text.

The comments following may help you assess some of the issues you've encountered.

Note you can back up and restore shares and permissions, but I've not seen a way to reset them:
Backup and Restore Network Shares and Permissions in Windows

It may be. As you might guess, it means the link is broken/not valid/temporarily not available.

This will be how you created your mapped drive:
Map Network Drive in Windows 10
(I find the title confusing, as it's really mapping a networked folder...)
Z: simply points to a folder on another PC on your network. The x will disappear when networking is established.

    Password/credentials expired: a search for
    windows netorking password expired
may help. This reviews this issue:

Drive Sharing Problem with Inconsistent Credentials and Permissions

    vistas sharing permissions... help needed

What I don't understand the following:

    Firewalls= Off
    Ownership = Him
NTFS Security Permissions = Allow user, full control set
Share permissions = allow user, full control set
    Password Protection = Off

What the fuck is stopping the authentication??

Fit for shit's and giggles, add the user you want to the Security permissions of the Hard drive the share is on.

Meaning if the share is on your C: Drive, go into the Security Tab in the C: drive and add that user. But don't share that Drive out, just set those NTFS permissions.
