Windows 10: Drive spinning and freezing pc for a few seconds again

Hi, I've had this issue 3 times now. Drive spinning and freezing pc for a few seconds

Hi, I've had issues with drives spinning and freezing my computer before, and fixed them, but it's started up again with absolutely nothing having been changed in my computer. My monitors stopped working when I woke up this morning, so I had to restart my computer by holding in the power button as I could not find the shut down button with no monitors. Restarting my PC worked, and I could see again, and then this issue began once more. The only changes I have seen are skype being installed for absolutely no reason, which was uninstalled manually by me later. Every 15 seconds or so, I hear a drive spinning up, and my PC freezes for the duration of the spin. Not really sure what to do, not sure what system information could be helpful on this either so please let me know what you need from me and I will get it ASAP.

 

PC locks for few seconds, then HDD spins up.

I have recently purchased a second HDD. It's WD Caviar Black 1TB. I use it as my system drive and my old WD RE2 500GB serves as backup drive now.

Problem is that occasionally my PC locks up. For example music player stops playing, and then i can hear HDD spinning up, after few seconds all starts working again.

Is that some kind of power saving feature? If it's a second HDD, then I can understand that, because nothing is using it and it could start spinning only when anti virus software is accessing files on it.

*I don't know which HDD is doing that*Confused
*All my drives and partitions are always listed in My Computer.
*WD software shows that both drives are in perfect condition.

 

5 seconds freezes

Rule 1./ Dont fix it if it aint broken

?? What were you doing messing with the inside of your PC ??

TIPS:

I've found these 5 sec freezes to be related to one of:

1./ Faulty USB cables/devices/or controller chips. Sometimes a NEW MOUSE fixed the problem. Sometimes it was the mainboard that needed fixing

2./ Faulty IDE cables. Sounds funny, but try a BRAND NEW CABLE. The issue may be with SATA too.

3./ Power management on the HDD. If it spins down, then spins up again, the whole PC freezes until the HDD is working again. Silly really, since the PC should be able to multi-task. But if the low level drivers are waiting for a HDD to spin up, then even your memory freezes, since the pagefile is part of memory and also on a HDD. Not that HDD commands are managed sequentially. If a read or write is outstanding to a "sleep mode" HDD, an active HDD has to wait until the other drive wakes up.
